Black Rock Shooter fighting Chariot |
When it was first aired, a lot of people said things like, "it was great!" "Better than the OVA!"
It's not like I didn't believe them, but I was wondering if it was really that good. Let me tell you, it is indeed better than the OVA, since they essentially had about 120 more minutes to expand the story than the 40-minute OVA had. However, there was something that put me off.
I am confident I left out any spoilers. I just said shit you could figure out without much effort. Kind of like looking at Black Rock Shooter and already knowing that's Mato. The obvious shit.
The story basically revolves around Mato and Black Rock Shooter (BRS). One in the same, but Mato is in the "real world," while BRS is in the "other world." Mato deals with drama and crisis' in the real world, while BRS deals with them via physical fights in the other world. Essentially.

I can explain some below:
- Season Count: 1
- Episode Count: 8 + Independent OVA
- Presentation/Appearance ─ 4.5/5
- The only reason I liked the predecessor (OVA) was because the animation was beautiful. I suppose they went all out on that because it was short; but now that we've reached a [short] series, they began to try a little less. Now, it's still high up because there was still a good amount blood and gruesome action. Things looked alright, but not nearly as good as the OVA.
- Characters ─ 3/5
- The characters got a little better. Yomi changed a little, they added a new character named Kagari. However, as for the girls fighting in "the other world," they did a terrible job introducing them. Kagari's "other self" was never introduced with a name, as far as I remember, but she is apparently named "Chariot."
- Plot/Story/Genre (Action and Drama) ─ 3.5/5
- There were a lot of inconsistencies. But by saying this, I would have to list them. I can't put my finger on it, but while watching, I was partially lost some of the time.
- Music/Sound ─ 3.5/5
- The music didn't really get to me as much as its predecessor's did. It was still decent.
- Final Verdict ─ 4/5
- Overall, it's worth the watch. It still does the whole switcheroo between our world and the other world while in the middle of a fight or important scene, but this time, they did it a little better. I guess you just have to watch to see what I'm talking about.
This scene didn't exactly happen. It's an edit I found online. I thought it was funny! |
Oh right, and in this series, it's kind of hard to tell who is the real "bad guy," so it's kind of all opinion. Hell, you could say there is no "bad guy."
Lastly, I made it short and sweet. If you guys want to see the "other world's" characters, let me know or go to the BRS OVA Review I made last year.
